HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2003-69RESOLUTION NO. 2003- 6 9 A RESOLUTION OF THE -CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DIAMOND BAR AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION TO THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY OFFICE OF CONSTRUCTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACQUIRING GRANT FUNDS FROM THE CALIFORNIA READING AND LITERACY IMPROVEMENT AND PUBLIC LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION BOND OF 2000 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW DIAMOND BAR LIBRARY Whereas, the residents of Diamond Bar have indicated a strong desire for a new Whereas, the City of Diamond Bar has conducted an extensive public process beg 1999 to allow the citizens of Diamond Bar including students, teachers, business Leaders, groups, cultural organizations and library patrons to identify the needs of the community a the library services to meet those needs; and , and in develop Whereas, the current Diamond Bar library is woefully inadequate in size and infrastr cture including inadequate access to technology, limited space to provide library programs, and a lack of parking to provide the library services identified by the community; and Whereas, while constructing the recently completed Diamond Bar Comm unity/Senior Khe City funded the grading and construction of onsite utilities and a parking lot for the Iibrar5 Whereas, the City requires funds from the California Reading and Literacy ImprovemE Public Library Construction Bond Act of 2000 (Library Bond ) to fund construction of the libra and 1 Whereas, the process to receive Library Bond funds requires the City to submit an NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Diamond California as follows: The City Council authorizes the City Manager to submit a Library Bond fi application in the amount of $6,516,881 or 65% of the construction costs authorizes the City Manager to execute all necessary documents related 2• The City Council commits to providing a local match of 35% of total eligit ($3,509,090) minus all local credits ($910,000) for a payment of ($2,599,1 3.
