Alarms may be solely battery operated where repairs or alterations do not result in the removal of wall and ceiling finishes or there is no access by means of attic, basement or crawl space. Starting July 1, 2014 all smoke alarms including combination smoke alarms, that are solely battery powered shall contain a non -replaceable, non -removable battery that Is capable of powering the .smoke alarm for at least 10 years.
